From Proximity to Utility: A Voronoi Partition of Pareto Optima
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present an extension of Voronoi diagrams where not only the distance to the site is taken into account when considering which site the client is going to use, but additional attributes (i.e., prices or weights) are also considered. A cell in this diagram is then the loci of all clients that consider the same set of sites to be relevant. In particular, the precise site a client might use from this candidate set depends on parameters that might change between usages, and the candidate set lists all of the relevant sites. The resulting diagram is significantly more expressive than Voronoi diagrams, but naturally has the drawback that its complexity, even in the plane, might be quite high. Nevertheless, we show that if the attributes of the sites are drawn from the same distribution (note that the locations are fixed), then the expected complexity of the candidate diagram is near linear. To derive this result, we derive several new technical results, which are of independent interest.

متن کاملWelfare economics with status quo bias: a policy paralysis problem and cure
To analyze welfare economics with status quo bias, we identify each agent with the incomplete preference relation defined by the preference judgments that hold at all of the agent’s status quo points. Although the welfare theorems of general equilibrium theory continue to hold, the set of Pareto optima can be very large. For generic economies, almost every Pareto optimum sits amid an open set o...
متن کاملOptimal risk-sharing rules and equilibria with Choquet-expected-utility
This paper explores risk-sharing and equilibrium in a general equilibrium set-up wherein agents are non-additive expected utility maximizers. We show that when agents have the same convex capacity, the set of Pareto-optima is independent of it and identical to the set of optima of an economy in which agents are expected utility maximizers and have same probability. Hence, optimal allocations ar...
متن کاملUncertainty quantifications of Pareto optima in multiobjective problems
Design is a multi-objective decision-making process considering manufacturing, cost, aesthetics, usability among many other product attributes. The set of optimal solutions, the Pareto set, indicates the tradeoffs between objectives. Decision-makers generally select their own optima from the Pareto set based on personal preferences or other judgements. However, uncertainties from manufacturing ...
